P.O. Box 66 Flatonia, Texas 78941

During the early morning hours of June 3, 2007 a windstorm blew through Flatonia with such force that it lifted the town's historic Southern Pacific Freight Depot off its temporary foundation causing considerable damage. When the sun finally rose, it was obvious that the old depot did not fare well during the storm. The wooden building shifted to the south, toppling the piers supporting the building.

After lengthly discussions with the City of Flatonia and engineers, it was determined that the building was beyond repair and needed to be completely dismantled. Before year's end, the job was completed and all that remians of the once proud structure are the saved architectural elements that can be used in a new building.

Determined to carry forward the dream of a rail museum nestled in the city park along the tracks, the Rail Board committee approved plans for the design of a new building, which replicated many of the features of the old depot. Once the new building is completed it will house a visitor's center and the contents of the Central Texas Rail History Center. A completion date has not been set.
